Hot Pursuit of a Dream

Growing up in a rural area in North Carolina on a family farm had its ups and downs. I had the privilege of being raised by a loving family and having acres of land to roam. We had our economic hard times, and it was not carefree. But nonetheless, it was a good upbringing.
However, one of the downsides of growing up in such an area was the fact the anything technologically related, or outside of the common vocational trades, people felt it was out of reach — this fact held for my dream to be in a creative field.

My county only had one high school, and resources were minimal. But my family still tried to support my talents in visual arts. So much so, the county arts council offer to pay half of my tuition for a summer session at the North Carolina School of the Arts. Luckily, my family put some money together for the remaining half, and I was able to attend this summer session after my sophomore year of high school. This experience would remain in the back of my mind for years to come.

Artist as a Fighter Jet Mechanic
I  proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and had some amazing experiences.

Now you may think that this guy graduated high school and went to college to get a degree in something that utilizes my artistic talents. Well, unfortunately, you would be wrong. Despite my experience at the School of the Arts, family funds were not there to go to school, and I had limited exposure to career opportunities as an artist because of my rural home. Due to the lack of direction and funds, I entered the U.S. Air Force, where I became an F-16 Crew Chief. This departure from my natural skills would only grow further from here.

Last Day as a Cop

I served 10 years with Alamance County Sheriff’s Office. I had a good career and worked with some good people. But I knew I wanted to be creative.

Once I got out of the Air Force, I was used to the paramilitary rank structure and mindset. The closest thing in the civilian world was law enforcement. From there, I ended up serving over ten years in law enforcement and ending it as a Detective. After getting married and enduring years of internal conflict, I decided it was time to turn in the badge and pursue my dream. With the support of my loving wife and family, I began my education in Advertising & Graphic Design. Making this change is a scary one, and it has been a challenge, but I feel that it is still worth it.

I’m on my last semester, finishing my last three classes. One of them being a Social Media class. I’ve had this website for months now and have been shying away from starting my blog, but this class has been the perfect opportunity to get it done finally. So, stick around and follow me. I think I may keep doing it.
