Hello, I am Joshua Lee Terrell. I was born and raised on a farm in rural North Carolina. My county only had one high school and little to no creative industry. However, from a young age, I exhibited a great aptitude for visual arts and my family nurtured that talent. Whether it was a summer session at the North Carolina School of the Arts while in high school or simply giving me the pencil and paper to express my creativity, my family fostered my abilities. Despite their humble background and sparse opportunities, my family made many sacrifices to ensure that my talent was not wasted. Despite being born and raised in the rural south, I have lived all over the United States during my lifetime and developed an open mindset that makes me a flexible and resourceful creative.

As time went by and I entered adulthood, I felt the need to serve my country and I entered into the military. After my time in the military, I chose to continue my service to the public by entering law enforcement. However, as time went by I felt that I had served my obligation to my country and people, therefore, I decided to pursue a career as a creative. This began by starting my own freelance business with photography which evolved into graphic design. Quickly, this motivated me to finally get a formal education in the field. I went back to college to finally pursue the craft that I and my family always thought I was destined for. During my time in school, I received the chance to formally acquaint myself with software and tools that I never thought I would have an interest in or talent for such as animation and web design. While I have always been in practice, I am pleased to say that these experiences have developed my talent into a marketable asset perfect for a creative.

Work History

Life is sometimes not a perfectly straight road. However, a life that takes several roads and detours allows a person to gain special experiences and skills that would not have been otherwise experienced on the straight road. I think that I embody that method to the core. I do not regret any of my experiences as they have made me into the well-rounded creative that I am today. Formal education can only teach so much, but on-the-job experiences mold a person into the professional that they embody. Therefore, I would like to present to you a quick visual tour of my work history and the special skills that I have gained as a result.

Near my 10 year mark in law enforcement, I decided that I wanted to pursue my dream to become a professional creative. This included leaving my job and going back to school full-time to get my degree in Advertising & Graphic Design. Now I work for the University of North Carolina at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center where I supervise a team of Graphic Designers and create a vast array of design work every day.

While my work history and background may be diverse and interesting, I am sure that many are curious about what my exact skill set is. I specialize in three particular areas: Graphic Design, Multimedia, and Web Design. It should be mentioned that I have expertise with industry standards and tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Infinity Designer, and equipment relevant to capture video and photography. However, I would like to give a visual representation of how I rank my skills against one another. Realistically, everyone is stronger in some areas than others while being proficient and expert in most of them. All of these skills represented below are skills that I have expertise in.
